Klára Smolíková is a writer, comics scriptwriter, and lecturer. She creates comics for children, leads creative workshops, and has long demonstrated that comics belong not only on the pages of magazines and books, but also in public spaces, schools, and museums.
At Comic Con Junior, she will present her new original sci-fi comic Kurýr z planety Země, created in collaboration with artist Martin Hanschild, which loosely follows their previous book Vesmírná zásilkovna.
She has written a number of children’s comic books, including Morčata v akci, Medvídek Lup a jeho kamarádi, Na hradě Bradě, and Viktorka a vesmírná dobrodružství, for which she and illustrator Honza Smolík received the Zlatá stuha for Best Children’s Comic.
She received another Zlatá stuha for the book S Komenským do komiksu. This project, created with illustrator Lukáš Fibrich, has been presented as an exhibition in hundreds of locations across the Czech Republic and abroad, and is now also available in Portuguese in Brazil.
Her comics are currently published in the magazines Světýlko (illustrated by Ilona Komárková) and Ahoj divočino (illustrated by Ester Kuchynková). She has also written three publications about comics for teachers and enthusiasts: Jak vyzrát na komiks, Mluvíme v bublinách, and Komiks a svět plný výzev.
She frequently incorporates comics into her book projects and transforms them into traveling exhibitions. She also contributes to museum exhibitions and educational trails, where she uses comic storytelling for its clarity and its ability to educate in a playful and engaging way.
