Sean Kanan is an American actor, born in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, Boston University, and UCLA, where he earned a degree in Political Science.

Kanan’s breakthrough role came in 1989 when he was cast as the villainous Mike Barnes in The Karate Kid Part III. A skilled martial artist, Kanan began studying Shotokan karate as a teenager under Sensei William Stoner.

More than three decades after his first appearance, Kanan reprised his iconic role as Mike Barnes in the fifth and sixth seasons of the hit series Cobra Kai, returning one of the franchise’s most memorable characters to the screen.

Beyond the Karate Kid universe, Kanan has enjoyed a successful television career. In 2000, he joined the cast of the CBS daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful as Deacon Sharpe, a role he later reprised on CBS’s sister soap opera The Young and the Restless.

Throughout his career, Kanan has received recognition for his work, including a Daytime Emmy Award for his series STUDIO CITY. In 2016, he was honored with the 400th star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

In addition to acting, Sean Kanan is dedicated to social causes. He is an active advocate for anti-bullying initiatives and serves as an ambassador for Boo 2 Bullying, an organization focused on helping young people stand against bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion.
