Robert Picardo is an American actor. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from William Penn Charter School in 1971. He originally entered Yale University as a pre-medical student, but eventually decided to pursue acting instead. He graduated from Yale with a bachelor’s degree in drama.

Robert Picardo made his feature film debut in Joe Dante’s THE HOWLING. He played several roles in Dante’s family science-fiction film EXPLORERS and later appeared in Dante’s THE ’BURBS, as well as LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH, SMALL SOLDIERS and INNERSPACE.

From 1995 to 2001, Picardo played the role of the Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH), also known as The Doctor, in the television series STAR TREK: VOYAGER. He reprised the role in the 1996 film STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT and later appeared as additional versions of the EMH in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. In 2024, he reprised the role of The Doctor in the second season of STAR TREK: PRODIGY and appeared as The Doctor in STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY.

In 2004, Picardo began playing the recurring role of International Oversight Advisory (IOA) member Richard Woolsey in both STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE: ATLANTIS. In 2008, Picardo joined the regular cast of STARGATE: ATLANTIS for its final season.

His other television guest appearances include roles in THE ORVILLE, LUCIFER, SMALLVILLE, THE FLASH, HOME IMPROVEMENT and THE MENTALIST.
